Normal Skin
Skin that is generally not too dry or too oily is called “normal” skin. This skin type has an even tone with few spots, blackheads, or pimples. It is smooth, firm, and easy to care for. A daily facial wash can help remove dead skin cells and oily buildup, and a light moisturizer is all you need to keep it hydrated and clear.
Oily Skin
This skin type is shiny and prone to having enlarged pores, acne, and blemishes. Skin care products for oily skin help remove excess oil and often contain antibacterial ingredients to prevent spots and other blemishes. Daily facial wash can help keep oily skin clear. Look for an oil-free facial moisturizer to keep your skin healthy. You may want to use a clay mask once a week to deep clean your pores. This can also help shrink pores over time.
Dry Skin
Dry skin looks dull and flaky and feels tight. This type of skin requires a gentle facial cleanser that will not dry it out more. Using a moisturizer once or twice a day can keep the skin hydrated and healthy. If you need to shave dry skin, use a rich, moisturizing shaving cream to protect it.
Sensitive Skin
If your skin looks blotchy, red, or irritated after you use products on it, you probably have sensitive skin. Be sure to use products that have no harsh chemicals, scents, or other irritants. It’s a good idea to test new products on a small area of skin before using them on the whole face.
Combination Skin
It is common to have an oily “t-zone” (forehead, nose, and chin) with normal or dry cheeks. To even out this type of skin, avoid products that dry out the skin as well as products that are heavy or greasy. Some products target combination skin, but you may have to experiment with a few different products for the different areas of your face to restore a moisture balance.
